When you'd hear it
This is common in everyday polite conversation when discussing near-future plans, and it also appears in workplace conversations and announcements. Casual speech often uses 하려고 해, while more formal speech uses 하려고 합니다.
What learners get wrong
It attaches to verb stems and highlights a person's intention. Unlike -(으)ㄹ 거예요, which can also express a prediction, it sounds unnatural for events with no human intention, such as weather changes.
