-다 보면

da(ga) bomyeon

Grammar · 1 sense

if you keep at it, eventually

Examples

매일 쓰다 보면 실력이 늘 거예요.

If you write every day, you'll improve.

살다 보면 그런 일도 있는 법이에요.

Live long enough and things like that happen.

When you'd hear it

This pattern is common in conversational Korean and also appears in advice, interviews, and explanatory writing. It describes a result that emerges after continuing an activity over time, rather than a single hypothetical condition.

What learners get wrong

Points forward instead of back: keep doing the thing and this will follow. 계속 연습하다 보면 늘 거예요. The second clause is a guess about the future, so it takes -(으)ㄹ 거예요 or -게 되다 - never a past tense, which is the neat split from -다 보니.

You looked up -다 보면 — Ipsae makes sure you still know it in three weeks.
