said that - reporting a statement
Examples
민수 씨가 다음 주에 이사한다고 했어요.
Minsu said he's moving next week.
일기예보에서 내일 춥다고 했어요.
The forecast said it'll be cold tomorrow.
When you'd hear it
Common in both conversation and writing when reporting what someone said, heard, or announced. In polite speech it often appears with 하다, 듣다, or 들었다, as in 내일 한국에 간다고 들었는데요.
What learners get wrong
Reports what was said without the quotation marks, and the sentence has to be reshaped first: a present-tense verb takes -ㄴ다고/-는다고, an adjective takes -다고, a past verb takes -았/었다고, and a noun takes -(이)라고. 하다 can be swapped for 말하다, 그러다, 전하다 or 듣다.
