Examples

만약 복권에 당첨된다면 뭘 하고 싶어요?

If you won the lottery, what would you want to do?

제가 사장이라면 그렇게 하지 않을 거예요.

If I were the boss, I wouldn't do it that way.

When you'd hear it

This pattern appears in careful conversation, dramas, interviews, and especially writing when someone frames a supposition or an unlikely condition. It is less casual than simply using -(으)면, though it is not limited to highly formal speech.

What learners get wrong

A supposition further from reality than -(으)면: 내가 새라면 날아갈 텐데. The indirect quotation shape gives it that distance - -ㄴ다면 on a vowel-final verb stem, -는다면 on a consonant-final one, -다면 on adjectives, -(이)라면 on nouns. Often with 만약 or 만일.
