When you'd hear it

Common in polite conversation, especially when explaining your current location or timing by phone or message. It often appears as 가는 길이에요 or 오는 길이에요 in everyday speech, rather than in formal writing.

What learners get wrong

This means being en route, not simply being in the middle of an activity. Compare -는 중이다: 집에 가는 길이다 means you are on the way home, while 집에 가는 중이다 focuses on the process of going home.

You looked up -는 길이다 — Ipsae makes sure you still know it in three weeks.
