When you'd hear it
-더냐 is old-fashioned and literary, and is common in historical dramas or in speech by an older, authoritative, or confrontational speaker. In contemporary conversation, it can sound stern or deliberately archaic rather than neutral.
What learners get wrong
Unlike -냐 or -니, -더냐 asks about something the listener personally encountered, observed, or learned through experience. It often has a retrospective tone, as in asking what someone saw on arrival or who gave an instruction.
