더러 is mainly conversational and appears in speech, dramas, and informal writing when describing words, questions, or commands directed at someone. It is less common in polished formal prose, where 에게 or 한테 may be preferred depending on the construction.
What learners get wrong
Unlike 에게 or 한테, 더러 commonly marks the person addressed in a saying, question, or command, as in 너더러 하라고 했어. It is not a general-purpose marker for every recipient or target.
