When you'd hear it

Common in everyday conversation, including polite speech at work and casual speech with friends. It often appears when stating an expected situation before giving advice, a question, or a contrasting fact, and is also common in dialogue in dramas.

What learners get wrong

Unlike -(으)ㄹ 것 같다, -(으)ㄹ 텐데 often sets up a related reaction, contrast, or suggestion rather than simply making a prediction. It can refer to an expected past result too, as in 지금쯤 도착했을 텐데.

You looked up -(으)ㄹ 텐데 — Ipsae makes sure you still know it in three weeks.
