This pattern is common in everyday conversation, including among friends, at work, and in dramas. Both 돼요 and 해요 forms are polite; 해라체 and written forms also occur in instructions and rules.
What learners get wrong
해야 돼요 and 해야 해요 usually mean the same thing, but 돼요 is especially common in speech. The form is often contracted to 돼요, not 되요.
