그는 공부밖에 모른다.

When you'd hear it
Common in everyday speech and writing, especially in questions, complaints, and statements emphasizing a limited amount. It appears with predicates such as 안 되다, 없다, and 모르다.
What learners get wrong
Unlike 만, 밖에 normally requires a negative predicate: 두 개밖에 안 줘요 means only two were given. 만 can be used with either a positive or negative predicate.
